System Operations Engineer [deadline 25-May-2018]

Exostaff GmbH is looking for motivated and experienced system operations engineers to support the provision of services for our Customer, EUMETSAT (European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites).

Location of work: Darmstadt, Germany.

Due date for application: 25th May 2018.

Preferred start date: Flexible.

The service team will provide support to the Sentinel System Operations Team, led by the EUMETSAT Copernicus S3 System Operations Team Leader, within the Real-time services and System Operations (RSO) Division of the Operations and User Services Department (OPS).

The ideal candidate:

In addition to having a University degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline, the ideal candidate shall have experience in at least two of the following mandatory skills:

  • at least 3 years’ experience of the system operations and monitoring of real-time, complex, satellite instrument data processing systems, as well as demonstrated experience in planning and coordination of operation build up activities;
  • demonstrated experience of the definition, development, integration, acceptance testing and operation of flight and mission operations and data systems
  • demonstrated experience with UNIX/Linux operating systems;
  • communicate effectively in English (verbally and written);

Furthermore, it would be a distinct advantage to have experience with some of the following:


 development and maintenance of operational procedures and/or configuration data;
 experience with data analysis software packages such as MATLAB;
 scripting languages and databases (e.g. Perl, Python, shell, Oracle);
 Some experience with definition and development of test tools and generation of test data sets;
 System requirements management and functional/architectural modelling, with support of tools (e.g. DOORS);
 Configuration Control processes and tools;
 familiarity with ECSS and CCSDS standards related to space-to-ground interfaces and applicable to Satellite Monitoring & Control Systems: Packet Telemetry and Telecommand standards, PUS (Packet Utilisation Standard), etc.;
